FishPix
is a database of 150,120 photographs of fishes. The Fish Divisions
of the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History, Odawara, and the
National Museum of Nature and Science, joined forces in 1998 to build this
database. FishPix consists primarily of photographs of Japanese fishes but
also includes those taken in the tropical western Pacific, the Indian
Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and other parts of the world. Although
ichthyologists have provided many photographs, the majority has been sent
from amateur SCUBA divers. The assistance of the diving community is
gratefully acknowledged.
Commercial use of photographs in
FishPix is strictly prohibited. Permission to publish or otherwise
distribute portions of the information obtained from FishPix is granted to
persons affiliated with academic and nonprofit organizations for
scientific, scholarly, or educational purposes only. The information
contained herein may not be reproduced without the express written consent
of the Fish Divisions of the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural
History, Odawara, and the National Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo.
When the users reproduce images in FishPix, the credit of photographs
must be clearly shown (e.g., photo by Hiroshi Senou, KPM-NR 0016963).
